How to Choose the Perfect Gym Towel? Size, Material, Features to Look For
A towel is a towel is a towel, right? All towels are made equal, right? Wrong! Some towels are not ideal to use at the gym. They might be too big and bulky, they might leave fluff all over the place, or they might just stink. Literally. So here’s a couple of things to look for when choosing the perfect and most effective gym towel.
What’s the Best Size for a Gym Towel?
The best size for a gym towel is one that can cover an exercise bench, can be carried easily from equipment to equipment, but isn’t too big or heavy like a beach towel. We find that our 45 x 95 cm gym towel is the perfect size! Long enough and wide enough for a typical gym bench, small enough to chuck over the handles of the exercise bike, and the perfect size to lay on for sit-ups, push-ups, and yoga poses.
What Towel Should I use for the Gym?
Beach towels are just way too big and cumbersome to carry around, and cotton bath towels aren’t great for the gym, as you definitely don’t want to be leaving bits of fluff on the equipment, plus they’re usually too thick.
Gym towels can come in various materials, but a lot of them take too long to dry after a sweaty sess, which causes bacteria and bad odors. You know that smelly feet smell? Yeah, it might be your towel. Then if you chuck it into your bag or car, and take it to work, that can leave even more lingering smells!
So we found that microfibre, a high-quality blend of polyester and polyamide, is the best type of material for a gym towel. It has more surface area, due to the tiny little fibres, which allows it to wick away moisture, and absorb more sweat. It dries super quick too, which means no odors, and no more time wasted waiting for the towel to dry before chucking it into your bag!
Did we also mention that it's made from recycled plastic bottles too? Therefore, reducing the creation and use of raw materials?
Why Choose a Towel Made from Recycled Materials?
Yes, it’s true, this towel is made from recycled plastic bottles! But what does that really mean?
- Reduces Waste: By repurposing plastic that would otherwise end up in landfills or oceans, each towel helps cut down on global plastic pollution.
- Less Demand for Raw Materials: Using recycled PET (plastic) fibres means fewer new raw materials need to be extracted, processed, and manufactured. That reduces environmental impact at every stage.
- Lower Carbon Footprint: Producing fabric from recycled plastic generally uses less energy and water than manufacturing virgin polyester, helping reduce overall carbon emissions.
- High Performance, Same Softness: Thanks to modern textile technology, recycled fibres can still be soft, absorbent, and durable so you’re not sacrificing comfort for sustainability.
Are There Any Extra Features of a Towel I Should Look for?
Two sides are always better than one, and our FLXNFLW sweat towels have two very different designs on either side which means you’ll always know which side you used for wiping up sweat from the equipment, and which side of the towel you can use for your face!
Our sweat towels also come with a super handy snap button hanging loop, which means you can hang it around a squat rack, or on the handlebars of an elliptical bike, on the back of the door in the showers. Best of all, the loop is in the middle of the towel which means it’s shorter when hung up, perfect for hanging on the outside of your backpack or duffle bag when you’re done with your workout, to allow it to air out and dry out!
